DeMeritt has been a team leader as Duxbury jumps out to a 6-0 record. The 6-foot-1, 195 pound senior has gained over 1000 yards in only 5 games, mainly with his strength and speed. In an interview with the Boston Herald recently, the unassuming DeMeritt refused to take any credit for his success, something his teammates predicted would happen earlier this season.
“I just want to win and contribute in anyway I can,” DeMeritt said. “Our o-line is smart and well coached. They’re the reason for all of our scoring success. Without them, we don’t win the games.”
With all due respect, the dynamic duo of Devin DeMeritt and QB, Bobby Maimaron is probably the single biggest reason the Duxbury Dragons remain undefeated. Devin has been at his best, game in - game out. He picks up first downs at will and is currently averaging more than 20 yards every time he touches the ball.
The gaudy numbers might lead one to believe that Duxbury spoon feeds DeMeritt the ball every single down, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In the last two games DeMeritt has been double, even triple teamed.
“He just makes plays when we get him the ball,” Maimaron said. “He’s #1 in the state for good reason and we are lucky to have him as member of our team.”
Undefeated Duxbury heads into there final regular season game next week against the Hingham Harborman. Friday, October 21st - Home 7:00PM
