USA TODAY says Duxbury. DeMeritt. Undefeated League Champs! #1 in the State - #5 in the East

It's official, the Dragons are the 2016 undefeated 7-0 Patriots League champs. Most importantly Bobby Maimaron and Devin DeMeritt are healthy and strong headed into the payoffs.

The top-ranked Dragons completed a perfect regular season, locking up the Patriot League title and the No. 1 seed. Duxbury outscored foes 335-70 during the season, featuring the most prolific offense in Eastern Massachusetts.

On Friday night, senior Devin DeMeritt adds over 100 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, solidifying him as the leagues best at 19 touchdowns, 765 rushing yards on 57 carries (average of 13.4 yards per carry) and over 1200 total yards.

This was a special night not only for the Dragons seniors but also for the kids of the Dorchester Boys and Girls Club.

Last Saturday afternoon – 15 hours after they beat Quincy, 52-7 – members of the Duxbury football team weren’t nestled up on their couches watching college football. They were at the Boys and Girls Club in Dorchester volunteering. The Dragons taught some up-and-coming stars the rules, strategy and nuances of football, bonding with them. This is the first time the team has put on a football clinic for the Club, the Dragons also ran a coat drive and toy drive in partnership with the organization.

Prior to last nights game, each of the senior players invited a kid from the Dorchester Boys and Girls club to hang with them for the day after school; pizza party, pre-game, locker room, sidelines, photos and interviews after the game.

Senior, Devin DeMeritt had a super fan who got to wear his helmet after the game.

“While the kids benefitted a great deal, the Duxbury players got as much, if not more out of the experience” said Head Coach Dave Maimaron
