RUNNING BACK, DEVIN DEMERITT
Senior Devin DeMeritt figures to serve as Duxbury’s primary ball carrier. Hampered by injuries during his high school career, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound DeMeritt has added some noticeable bulk to his frame while rehabbing from the knee injury that cost him virtually the entire 2015 season.
After rushing for 712 yards as a sophomore, DeMeritt was limited to just 127 yards on 17 carries last season. When healthy, he’s flashed breakaway speed that most players would be envious of.
Health provided, DeMeritt should lead the Dragons in carries this fall, in turn helping Maimaron focus on delivering the ball to his talented collection of receivers. De- Meritt has been named to the preseason All-State team for both the Boston Herald and ESPNBoston.com.
“Last year we didn’t really have a run threat other than Bobby and now we’ll have a serious run threat that will put pressure on defenses,” Maimaron said.
During Duxbury’s summer showcase at the Under Armour Northeast 7-on-7 flag football tournament, DeMeritt also displayed his pass catching abilities. He scored a handful of receiving touchdowns during Duxbury’s run to the tournament’s New England championship.
“Devin has great hands,” Maimaron said. “He might have the best hands on the team.”
That’s really saying something considering the Dragons have arguably the state’s best receiver on their roster. Stay tuned for more on him.
At 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds, junior Frankie Tower is not the imposing figure that DeMeritt is but he’ll get touches in Duxbury’s offense.
He accumulated just 21 carries last fall but Tower has impressed his coaches during a productive summer. More of a between-the-tackles runner, Tower compliments the speedy DeMeritt.
“Frankie is quicker, stronger and faster than he was last year,” Maimaron said. “If he gets to the second level he’ll be able to take off. He’s going to be a really good option to go along with Devin.”
If you’re a college coach looking for a home run threat, look no further than Devin DeMeritt. DeMeritt has all the tools to be a complete running back. He thrives in pass blocking situations, is a serious receiving threat out of the backfield, and has 4.54 speed to leave defenders in the dust. With a coveted skill set and an outstanding 3.9 GPA, schools are beginning to take notice.

The sought-after student athlete out of Duxbury High School (Duxbury, MA) has already visited Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Brown and the University of New Hampshire, and has been invited to the camps of Boston College, Dartmouth, Villanova, Lehigh, Bucknell and Delaware. DeMeritt has also been invited to College Junior Days at Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Boston College, Bucknell, Lehigh and Villanova. DeMeritt hopes to continue to hear from more schools, including Penn State.
When he isn’t playing Midfield for the Varsity Lacrosse team, DeMeritt continues to work on strength and conditioning to improve for his senior season. This offseason, he plans on putting on more weight, after going from 170 to 195 this past season. He also plans on working on his already impressive speed, making him a nightmare for opposing defenses. He works with his strength coach four days a week, while running and conditioning on weekends by himself.
